A Long Story
Red Jack was written by Charles Black in July of 2016. Charles’s step-daughter Alana Cortez was very active in her High School drama class and wanted to do something with her friends. So Charles created Red Jack for her and her friends and was planned as a feature film. The script was completed in September of 2016 and it was off to scout locations in the desert to film at.
By October 2nd Charles had located all the locations he need to begin filming and it looked like this was going to be a smooth project.
Film began on October 11, 2016 with Alana and her friends from drama filling all the characters.
But hings took a turn in the wrong direction as the high school friendship quickly drifted apart. The film was left with several scenes missing and an incomplete story.
Was this the end for Red Jack?
Relaunch of Red Jack in 2019
After everything fell apart with Red Jack in the fall of 2016, Charles had been assisting with several other projects. He spent 2017 and into early 2018 working with a Veteran Nonprofit organization doing hurricane disaster relief.
In April of 2018 Charles suffered a major Heart Attack and needed time to recover and along with taking some much needed vacation time.
In January of 2019 Charles felt the time was right to relaunch Red Jack and see if he could get it completed.
On January 24, 2019 Charles approached Gregg Arnold about playing one of the main characters in the film. Needless to say Gregg was excited and it was now time to move forward.
Feb 2, 2024 Charles and Gregg were holding a casting call in Kingman, AZ.
On April 2, 2019 one year after Charles’s Heart Attack he was officially filming Red Jack again. Only this time he had a larger cast and crew on the film.
Charles had also received support from the local Bureau of Land Management to film and work on BLM land in northwestern Arizona.
While it was amazing working with a full crew and having all the support needed to make the film a reality it sadly came to a quick end. One of the main actors decided they no longer wanted to complete the film. Leaving the story line once again missing key elements.
